DOBSON — All prospective Surry County Schools kindergarten student parents are being encouraged to attend Beginners’ Day programs being held at individual schools locally. According to information from Surry County Schools Superintendent Dr. Travis Reeves, parents will be asked to make an appointment for their child to have an individual school orientation session during April.

Parents are asked to bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate, immunization record and social security card to the beginners’ day program. According to Reeves, all elementary schools in the Surry County district are now accepting advanced registrations for kindergarten and prekindergarten classes for the 2013-2014 school year.

Any parent whose child will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 should call the school in his or her attendance area. Children who are 4 years old on or before Aug. 31 may be eligible for prekindergarten.
