DOBSON — The Surry Central boys varsity team defeated North Stokes at home on Saturday by a score of 68-50 and clinched eighth place in the Northwest 1A/2A conference standings.

Head Coach Ken Eiswald said the Golden Eagles gave a spread-out offensive effort, played as a team and shared the basketball against the Vikings.

Zach Wilmoth led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 20 points.

“I was very proud of the guys to play like they have,” said Eiswald.

The coach said the Golden Eagles came into Saturday’s game after expending a lot of energy battling Winston-Salem Prep Friday night and “still played with energy.”

Surry Central led in scoring in the first two quarters and went into the half with the Golden Eagles up 35-20. The Vikings did outscore the Golden Eagles by four points in the third quarter, and the quarter ended with the Golden Eagles still on top 48-37.

In the final quarter, the Golden Eagles got yet another burst of energy and hammered in 20 points total while the Vikings put in 16 points.

The Golden Eagles boys varsity team finished the season with a 9-16 overall record and went 3-13 in the conference.

The team will play Winston-Salem Prep in the Northwest conference tournament scheduled to begin on Monday at Winston-Salem Prep. Winston-Salem Prep remains undefeated 16-0 and is the first seed.

For the Golden Eagles in Saturday’s game, Simeon Bracken scored 11 points, Luke Haymore scored eight points, Jake Wilmoth scored eight points, Kirk Needham scored six points, Brett Mosley scored four points, and Samuel Harris scored four points.

Cole Stewart and Kenyon Martin each scored two points and Rocky Collins scored three points.

The game high point-scorer went to Garett Wood with 21 points.

The full information for team seeding for the upcoming Northwest 1A/2A conference match-ups was determined on Saturday, but officials could not be reached for a final schedule.
