STUART, Va. —The Ararat and Claudville areas of Patrick County will have a new representative on the county Board of Supervisors due to a decision by the incumbent not to seek re-election.
The filing period for the 2009 election in Patrick passed this week with 3 of Ararat, who serves the Dan River District on the five-member board, declining to throw his hat into the ring for another four-year term.
Large, a former chairman of the county board who co-owns an insurance agency in Stuart with his wife, could not be reached for comment Friday regarding his decision.
It has opened the door for two other supervisor hopefuls in the district that covers the southwestern corner of the county.
Both Janet Epperson of Ararat and Roger Hayden of Claudville filed for the supervisor’s seat before this week’s deadline.
The county election will be held in November for the supervisor’s seat that expires on Dec. 31.
In another political development affecting the Dan River District, Quinn Brim filed for the district’s seat on the Patrick County School Board.
