County voters gave the nod to a third term in the North Carolina House for Rep. Sarah Stevens, who was unopposed in this year’s election.

Stevens, a Republican, received 22,016 votes in the county’s 29 precincts, a number she calls “a vote of confidence” from her constituents.

“I think it was a vote of confidence and to me that’s important,” she said from Raleigh, where she attended a House election event.

The 52-year-old Mount Airy attorney said she would is grateful to the constituents who chose to vote for her, despite her being unchallenged.

“I want to thank the voters who cast their votes for me for their support and for keeping me on my toes in the future,” she said with a laugh. “I’ve always said I’ll never get in trouble while in office because there are too many people watching me.”

She said that during her third term her primary focus will be to continue to represent the citizens of Surry County and finish projects under way.

“My primary focus is going to be to view any proposed laws to determine the potential impact on my district,” she said.
