The state soccer playoffs begin on Halloween this year.

Several area teams will be in action Wednesday night, including Mount Airy and Surry Central with home matches. East Surry has a bye.

North Surry (6-11-3) didn’t receive a wild-card entry. East Burke (7-11-1) is the only wild card for the 2A West.

Many soccer matches will start at 6 p.m. However, opposing teams can choose a different start time between themselves.

Mount Airy (14-8-1) will host South Stokes (4-15-2) at 7 p.m. in the 1A brackets. The winner will face Central Academy (16-4-1), which received a first-round bye. Central Academy already is set to play the Bears in football this Friday.

Bishop McGuinness (10-9-2) hosts Gray Stone Day (4-6) with the winner moving on to face East Montgomery (14-4-3), which has a bye.

East Surry (11-8-1) awaits the winner of North Moore (10-4-1) and Monroe (11-10).

Elkin (12-6) has a bye and will face either Avery (8-12-2) or West Wilkes (6-12-1).

On the 2A side, area teams in action are Surry Central, Ashe County, Forbush, Starmount and West Stokes.

The Golden Eagles (16-2-2) will host Forest Hills (8-9-2) at 6 p.m. Likely, the Eagles will travel to Salisbury (16-2-1) in the second round as Salisbury hosts East Burke (7-11-1).

West Stokes (16-4-2) will host Lexington (12-7-2) at 7 p.m. The winner advances to face either Forbush (16-1-2) or Randleman (6-11-2).

Ashe County (20-1-1) will host Central Davidson (9-8-2). Up next would be either Trinity (14-4-2) or West Stanly (4-11-1).

Starmount (9-7-2) travels to West Davidson (11-4-3). The winner faces either Cuthbertson (17-3-1) or Atkins (6-13).

The second round of the state playoffs is Saturday.
