RONDA — East Surry exploded for a huge third quarter that lifted the team over East Wilkes 65-42 late Monday.
Coach Jason Anderson, in his seventh season as the varsity coach, notched his 100th career win as his boys put together a 23-4 third quarter in the battle of the Cardinals.
East Surry got off to a good start, building a 21-14 advantage by the end of the first quarter.
However, the team got into foul trouble and saw three starters go to the bench in the second.
“We got productive minutes from the bench,” said Anderson, “but we didn’t build on the lead any.”
The visiting Cards led 36-26 at halftime, then exploded to a 59-30 margin after three quarters.
He said the turnaround in the second half wasn’t so much anything he said during the break, but rather getting three fresh starters back on the floor.
Center Seth Brim was scoreless in the first half, but he scored six points in the third and two more in the fourth before sitting the rest of the way.
Eli Gilbert picked up his scoring, and Scott Meredith got hot from the outside.
For the second-straight game, Meredith put up big numbers. He scored 25 two days after tallying 26 against Elkin.
Gilbert added 12, Tyler Pardue seven and Carson Long six.
The Cards will host their first conference game next Tuesday against West Stokes.
