Surry County Schools Director of Transportation Rodney Hardy said there were no injuries or reports filed in connection with a Friday afternoon incident between a county school bus and a large recreational vehicle.

Hardy said that the incident occurred at 3:15 p.m. Students were on the bus at the time of the accident. A tow line was attached to the bus to pull it from the hole and the mechanics at the scene certified there were no damages to the bus, which transported the students home afterward.

Hardy reported that the bus was turning off of Old 601 South at the intersection of East McKinney Road when an RV topped the hill from the opposite direction. He said the space on the roadway between the two large vehicles was limited and the bus turned too sharply and came to rest in a hole beside the roadway.

He also recognized the assistance of the White Plains Volunteer Fire Department and Surry County Emergency Services.
