MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Gerlteen Rachel McCraw Simpson, 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Northern Hospital. Mrs. Simpson was born in Surry County on July 29, 1940, to Glen and Ethel Sechrist McCraw. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend to so many. Left to cherish her loving memory are a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Kenneth Lawson of Mount Airy; sons and a daughter-in-law, Mitch Simpson of Charlotte and Todd and Kathy Simpson of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Drew Simpson, Logan Simpson and Paige Simpson; a sister, Earlene Smith of Mount Airy; a niece, Nikki Hopkins; and a great-niece Ella Glyn Hopkins. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy “Tim” Gray Simpson; and a grandson, Jacob Simpson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dwight Sechrist and the Rev. David Sechrist. Burial will follow in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Todd and Kathy Simpson at 354 Foxwood Lane, Mount Airy.
