KANNAPOLIS — Turnovers and a poor night at the free throw line kept the Surry Runnin’ Patriots boys out of the win column against Cabarrus Thursday, as the Runnin’ Pats dropped 65-53.

Surry was 13-of-25 from the free throw line and allowed Cabarrus to lengthen a 44-39 lead in the fourth quarter after foul trouble and time constraints forced the Patriots to foul.

“Too many turnovers and too many bad shots,” Surry coach Lin Hamilton said. “If we do a better job in those two things, we would have a better record than what we have now.”

Luke Hamilton led all scores with 25 points to go along with nine rebounds and six steals. Nate Gerber had 12 points and seven rebounds for Surry, while Josiah Speed and Austin Lester had five points each.

Hamilton also said his team lost the rebounding battle and allowed too many second chances for Cabarrus.

Surry will play next Tuesday against Roanoke, Va.
