Police were on the scene of a possible shooting at the shopping center located at the intersection of Renfro Street and Independence Boulevard last night. Officials would not confirm a shooting has taken place, but say a press release will be released in the near future.
Police were remaining tight-lipped Friday night, but were on the scene of what has been reported as a shooting.
Unconfirmed reports indicate one person has been transported to Northern Hospital, although no official word has been released.
Other unconfirmed reports indicate a shooting could have taken place, but again there has been no official confirmation.
As of shortly before 11 p.m., the parking lot behind the McDonalds in the shopping center at the intersection of Renfro Street and Independence Boulevard remained roped off with crime scene tape, and officers with the Mount Airy Police Department remained on the scene.
One Mount Airy police officer on the scene said a press release will be forthcoming, noting investigators are “still trying to piece together what happened.”
