• A traffic stop in the early morning hours Monday led to the arrest of a Mount Airy man on outstanding warrants for felony drug charges, according to city police department reports. Tony William Epperson, 39, of 1667 Bryant Road, was encountered during a stop on U.S. 52-South near its intersection with Main Street, with police subsequently learning there were active warrants out for him on violations of conspiracy to sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a controlled substance; and sale or delivery of a Schedule II substance, which had been filed on Feb. 4 by the Surry County Sheriff’s Office.

Epperson was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $15,000 secured bond and is scheduled to be in District Court on March 27.

• A Mount Airy woman has been arrested on felony charges of uttering a forged instrument and obtaining property by false pretenses. Patricia Nelson Gunter, 43, of 2016 Springs Road, was held in the county jail with no bond after being taken into custody last week, arrest records state. She also is accused of a misdemeanor violation of possession of drug paraphernalia. Gunter is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on March 11.

• Gary Dewayne Wheeler, 26, of 400 Surry Manor Lane, Apartment 37, Dobson, was charged Sunday with resisting, delaying or obstructing a city officer. Police were taking Wheeler into custody on Worth Street near Hale Street on and order for arrest filed in November 2004 for failing to appear in court when he allegedly tried to run from the scene while being handcuffed. He subsequently was brought under control and confined in the Surry County Jail under a $2,700 secured bond. Wheeler is to appear in District Court on April 22.

• Michael Allen Griffith, 30, of 312 Galloway St., was served Saturday with criminal summonses on two counts of injury to personal property, with John Walter Vaughn of Willow Street as the complainant. Griffith’s court date is Feb. 22.

• Brandy Baugus Bowers, 36, of 305 Glenhaven Way, Dobson, was cited for larceny on Feb. 7 after allegedly leaving Burke’s Outlet on Rockford Street with merchandise she did not pay for, which wasn’t specified. Bowers is facing a March 11 appearance in District Court.

• Two tail lamp assemblies were stolen on Feb. 7 from a 1994 Mazda pickup owned by Edward Keith McCraw of Flower Gap Church Road in Cana, Va. The property, valued at $45, was taken while the vehicle was at Auto Zone on Rockford Street, where McCraw is employed.

• Cynthia Nichole Glass, 25, of 310 Pippen St., was served with a criminal summons on Feb. 7 on a larceny offense stemming from an incident at Walmart. Glass is to be in District Court on March 5.

• A license check on Feb. 6 led to the arrest of a Pilot Mountain man on a felony charge of obtaining property by false pretenses and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods. Austin Cody Allen, 22, of 1288 Pilot-Westfield Road, was encountered by police near the U.S. 52-Carter Street intersection and it was learned there were outstanding warrants for arrest on him for those charges which had been filed by Pilot Mountain authorities in December.

Another order for arrest had been issued for Allen in connection with a larceny violation in Mount Airy in February of last year. He was confined in the county jail under a $12,500 secured bond and is slated for a March 27 appearance in Surry District Court.

• The theft of a 47-inch flat-screen television set was discovered on Feb. 5 at Veterans Memorial Park. The Vizio model, valued at $800, was removed from that location by unknown means.
