• A Mount Airy woman was arrested as a fugitive from justice after a weekend incident at Walmart, according to city police department reports. Rebecca Ann Smith, 30, of 227 Rockford St., was encountered by officers Saturday in connection with a false-pretense call at the store involving Amanda Gail Bledsoe, 20, of the same address. During the investigation, Smith was found to be wanted by the Sullivan County, Tenn., Sheriff’s Department on an unspecified matter. She was held in the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond, pending an Oct. 31 District Court appearance in Dobson.

Bledsoe, meanwhile, was charged with a felony in connection with the same investigation. She is accused of obtaining property by false pretenses for allegedly removing items from store shelves and taking them to the customer service desk to exchange for cash. Bledsoe is free on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on Oct. 23.

• Damage estimated at about $900 was discovered to a vehicle Monday. The 2002 GMC Envoy, owned by Theresia Holder Wilson, a Welch Road resident, was scratched with an unknown object while parked at Veterans Memorial Park.

• A break-in was discovered Monday at a residence on Flower Charm Lane, a rental property owned by Dallas Wayne Secrest of Ambassador Lane. The hinges were removed from a door, which received damage of $100. Though entry was gained, no property was listed as missing.

• Joseph Brian Key, 42, of 1518 Stoney Knoll Road, Dobson, is facing violations of larceny and possession of stolen goods which were filed Sunday at Walmart. This resulted from an observation by store security personnel, who subsequently found Key in possession of Tommy Hilfiger cologne and Robitussin cough medication, valued altogether at about $75. Key is to be in Surry District Court on Oct. 16.

• Property valued at $265 was discovered missing Saturday from the driveway of Jonathan Shane Worth on Oaklawn Road. Included were a Cub Cadet push mower, Husqvarna weedeater and two Playmate coolers.

• A case involving both forgery and false pretenses occurred Friday at Smokin’ Tobacco Pipes and More on West Lebanon Street. It resulted in the obtaining of property by illegal means, but other details were not listed.

• Trent Allen Hatcher, a resident of North Crosswinds Court, told police Friday that his BB&T debit card was stolen that day by a known suspect. The theft is said to have occurred at an unidentified business location at 280 North Pointe Blvd.

• A larceny occurred last Thursday at the apartment of Marshant Penn on Newsome Street, with a wallet containing four Social Security cards and an electronic benefits transfer card listed as missing.

• Trampas Trenton Nelson, 25, of 109 Fox Walk Lane in Pilot Mountain, was arrested on charges of malicious conduct by a prisoner, a felony; resisting, obstructing or delaying a public officer; and being intoxicated and disruptive on Sept. 4. Nelson was encountered during a civil disturbance at Creekside Cinemas. Police records state that he “continued to curse loudly” and to resist arrest after being placed into custody, including head-butting the window of a patrol car. Nelson also allegedly spit on an officer. He was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond and is to appear in District Court on Oct. 10.

Alicia Dawn Vipperman, 22, of the same address in Pilot Mountain, was charged with resisting, obstructing or delaying a public officer and being intoxicated and disruptive as a result of the incident. Vipperman is said to have failed to follow orders and continued to curse after being warned not to do so. She was jailed under a $2,500 secured bond and also is to be in court on Oct. 10.
