• A Mount Airy man has been charged with second-degree kidnapping and other offenses stemming from a domestic disturbance this week, according to city police department reports. Ernest Dontarieus McBride, 22, of 1335 Carolina Court, was encountered by officers early Monday at that address, where he allegedly had assaulted Leticia Ann Penn by grabbing her by the neck and dragging her. In addition to the kidnapping offense, which is a felony, McBride is accused of assault on a female and resisting, obstructing or delaying a public officer for allegedly failing to comply with police. He was confined in the Surry County Jail, with no bond figure listed, and is scheduled for a Sept. 24 District Court appearance.
• Police were told Tuesday that a known individual had attempted to obtain a controlled substance by fraud at Mount Airy Drug on West Pine Street three days before. The incident involved 120 oxycodone pills.
• A larceny occurred Saturday at the Super C convenience store on East Pine Street, where an unknown suspect left without paying for $10 worth of fuel.
• Police learned last Friday of a larceny that had occurred earlier in the month at the residence of Rocky Feller Golding Sr. on Merritt Street. Auto parts valued at nearly $500 were taken, including two Delco Remy alternators, a Delco Remy starter and two windshield wiper motors. In a separate report made at the same time regarding a break-in and larceny at Golding’s home the day before, a wallet containing $720, a Wells Fargo debit card, a Social Security card and a driver’s license were listed as stolen.
• Joseph Craig Tilley, 47, of 116 Bartow Trail, was served last Friday with an outstanding warrant on an offense of aiding and abetting larceny issued on Aug. 2, for which no details were released. Tilley is free on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on Sept. 18.
