• A Mount Airy man was served with warrants during the weekend on felony burglary and other charges from Forsyth County and jailed under a $56,000 secured bond, according to city police department reports. Sharif Jamel Robinson, 32, of 288 Gaylon St., is facing second-degree burglary and additional violations issued on July 2 in Forsyth, including larceny after breaking and entering and resisting a public officer. Robinson also allegedly failed to appear in court in both Surry and Forsyth counties and is accused of possessing a Schedule IV controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia when located early Saturday at a car wash on Hamburg Street and arrested. Robinson is facing a Sept. 19 appearance in Surry District Court.
• A computer valued at $2,000 was reported stolen Saturday from Rent-A-Center on South Andy Griffith Parkway, where a known suspect concealed the Apple MacBook in his clothing and left the business. No charges had been filed at last report.
• Fernando Soto, 17, of 753 N. State St., Yadkinville, is facing violations of larceny, inhaling toxic vapors and possession of toxic vapors which were issued Saturday after he allegedly was found breathing air duster at Walmart. Soto is to be in District Court on Sept. 25.
• A case of identity fraud was reported to police on Friday by personnel of the Social Security Administration office on North Andy Griffith Parkway. It involves a known individual using fraudulent Social Security numbers. An address on Marshall Street, which is listed for a medical office, was the location of the crime that was still under investigation at last report.
• A Lowgap man has been charged with felony hit and run stemming from a collision that injured a moped rider earlier this month. Charles Robert Wright, 32, of 160 Foster Lane, was served with a warrant on the offense Thursday and released on a written promise to appear in court on Sept. 25. The case relates to an Aug. 2 incident in which a moped operated by Gary Allen Lewis Jr. of North Main Street in Dobson was struck on U.S. 601 at Forrest Drive by another vehicle and its driver fled the scene. Lewis is said to have been injured, but the extent of his injuries could not be verified.
• Nikki Lei Gunter, 20, of 188 Cleve St., was served Thursday with warrants on felony and misdemeanor drug violations filed on Aug. 3. Gunter is accused of possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance, a felony, along with simple possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, which are misdemeanors. Among the substances involved were alprazolam, oxycodone, morphine and hydrocodone, according to police records. Gunter was held in the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond and is slated to be in District Court on Sept. 27.
