• Walmart was the scene of a crime on Sunday in which an unknown suspect put an 8,000-BTU air-conditioner into a shopping cart and left the store without paying, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports. The A/C unit, a Haier model, is valued at about $210.

• Danny Gray Hunter, 53, of 134 Cook School Road, was cited for larceny Sunday after he allegedly was observed shoplifting at Dollar General in the Mount Airy Plaza shopping center on Carter Street. Hunter is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Oct. 23.

• Claudia Barrera Ortega, 23, of 149 Wellington Drive, was cited for larceny Sunday at Walmart, where she allegedly concealed makeup items and left the store without paying. The merchandise was recovered, but was not saleable. Ortega’s District Court appearance is set for Aug. 21.

• Damage estimated at $500 occurred Friday to a 2011 Nissan Altima owned by Teresa Moore Roberts, a West Virginia Street resident. The vehicle was struck with a shopping cart while at an unidentified business location at 1136 W. Pine St., with the person who hit the car leaving without giving any information. The right-rear door was damaged.

• A break-in was reported Saturday at the residence of Dana Kay McDowell on Marshall Street. After entering her unsecured apartment, someone took compact discs valued at $40.

• The catalytic converter was discovered missing Friday from a 1997 Honda owned by Jodie David Donato of the Henderson County town of Fletcher. The converter, valued at $100, was taken from the vehicle while it was parked at South Main Street Service Center.

• Veterans Memorial Park on West Lebanon Street was the scene of a larceny discovered Friday, which involved someone cutting and removing copper tubing from propane tanks to meeting hall and VFW buildings, along with an oil tank at a barn. About 20 feet of tubing was taken altogether.

• Sathena Delane Cochram, 16, of 725 Creed St., was cited for larceny Friday at Walmart, after allegedly taking two pair of shorts and deli meats from the store. She is facing an Aug. 21 Surry District Court appearance.

• Douglas Michael Hunter, 58, of 105 Birchwood Drive, is facing violations of simple assault and second-degree trespassing, which were issued last Wednesday with Charles Jeffrey Phillips of Boonville as the complainant. Hunter is free on a written promise to be in District Court on Aug. 14.
