Mrs. Virginia Myrtle Poindexter, age 87, of Dobson, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012 at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy. She was born on September 21, 1925 in Surry County to the late Floyd Osborn and Famnie Leota Eads Whitaker. Mrs. Poindexter was a homemaker and a member of Glory Light Baptist Church.

Mrs. Poindexter is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Clyde Ashburn of Dobson, Gail and Ray Johnson of Dobson; three sons and daughters-in-law, Troy and Celeste Leigh Poindexter of Mt. Airy, Jerry and Amolene Poindexter of Boonville, Bobby Dean and Lynn Poindexter of Mt. Airy; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dovie Hutchins of East Bend, Levora Poindexter of East Bend, Frances Bauguess; and special friend, Darlene Gillespie of Mt. Airy.

Mrs. Poindexter was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Clayton Poindexter; her parents; son, Lloyd Robert Poindexter; grandson, Jerry Lee Poindexter; brothers, Wayne Whitaker, Willie Whitaker, Lacy Whitaker, and Kip Odell Whitaker.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Cox-Needham Chapel with Rev. Jim Vaught officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home.
