Tuesday afternoon 1,200 Duke Energy customers lost power from U.S. 52 at U.S. 601 to Snowhill Drive.

According to Duke Energy Spokeswoman Betsy Conway, the outages were reported at 1 p.m. Power was restored to all who lost service by 3:40 p.m., she said.

She said the outage was caused when there was a transmission surge in a high voltage line from the power plant to a substation. She said it is not known what caused the surge.

“We sent crews out immediately to restore power,” said Conway.

She said outages of this nature are not common since power lines are well maintained.

She said Duke Energy “appreciates everyone’s patience.”
