One Mount Airy hotel has garnered an award presented to only the top 10 percent of hotels based on customer reviews of their guest experience.

Hampton Inn Mount Airy has been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award, General Manager Lenise Lynch announced this week.

The accolade, which honors excellence in the hospitality industry, is awarded to establishments that “consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor, and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide.” About 10 percent of the hotels listed on the website receive the award.

Phil Cordell, the global head of focused service and Hampton Brand Management for Hilton Worldwide, said the award is prestigious because it is based on customer reviews.

He said the company focuses on trying to go above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience for guests.

“We’re thrilled to see that our hard work is translating into positive traveler reviews on TripAdvisor,” Cordell said.

Lynch said that spirit of going above and beyond is felt by every member of her staff.

“I have a great team at the Mount Airy Hampton Inn,” she said. “It takes all of us, from management to the housekeepers, to get the job done and come to a common goal of providing excellent service for each and every one of our guests.

“We all work together to provide that kind of wonderful Southern hospitality that can’t be found everywhere by welcoming travelers with open arms,” Lynch added. “They may come as our guest, but they leave as our friends.”

The Mount Airy hotel is one of 819 Hampton properties worldwide to earn the honor, a number that one tourism official says speaks volumes.

“I am excited for the Hampton Inn Mount Airy for earning the… award,” said Jessica Icenhour Roberts, director of tourism and marketing for the Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce. “This is great publicity for this property and the tourism industry here in Mount Airy.”

Roberts said earning the award “shows the high quality of establishment that the Hampton Inn represents.”

In order to qualify for the Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher out of a possible five, as reviewed by travelers on the website. The volume of reviews within the past year is also considered.

“TripAdvisor is pleased to honor exceptional businesses for consistent excellence as reviewed by travelers on the site,” said Christine Peterson, president of the travel site for business. “The Certificate of Excellence award gives highly rated establishments around the world the recognition they deserve.”
