Mount Airy C.C. holds ladies Invitational

The Mount Airy Country Club hosted its ladies invitational July 23, with seven clubs representing the 35 players.

The front nine format where the best two balls were played saw the group of Cindy Thomas of Beaver Creek Country Club; Norma Lawson of Pilot Knobb Country Club; Karen Spicer of New River Country Club; and Bonnie River of Mount Airy score the victory. The winning group recorded a net score of 59. Coming in second with a 61 was Bente Harris of Cedar Brook Country Club; Debbie Hiatt of Mount Airy; Priscilla Allen of Beaver Creek; and Molly Scott of New River. The third-place finishers, with a score of 63, were Susan Hatcher of Cross Creek Country Club; Mildred Miller of Mount Airy; Pat Hinshaw of Yadkinville Country Club; and Robby Jones of Mount Airy.

The ladies switched up the format on the back nine to a Texas Scramble. With a score of 52, the first-place finishers in that event were Linda Kiser of Pilot Knobb; Louis Foster of New River; Sarah Bryant of Beaver Creek; and Amelia Baldwin of Yadkinville. The second place group, with a score of 55, was Jean Johnson of New River; Teresa Boyd of Beaver Creek; Diane Kramer of Mount Airy; and Linda Hill of Pilot Knobb. Registering a 56 in third place were Nan Wood of Pilot Knobb; Wanda Spicer of New River; Kay Shores of Cedar Brook; and Joy Gardner of Mount Airy.

The event also featured specialty holes with longest drive, most accurate drive and closest to the pin holes. In the latter event, Foster won on the third hole, while Jane Long of Yadkinville took first on the 16th. The longest drives were displayed by Hatcher (No. 6) and Bryant (No. 15). Those with the most accurate drive were Debbie Hiatt on the second hole and EvaLena Cox of New River on the 13th.
