Lady Eagles jump on Lady Vikings early for win

DANBURY — Surry Central stayed a game ahead of Mount Airy in the standings by beating North Stokes 58-38 Friday.

The Lady Eagles are 8-6, one game ahead of the Lady Bears for fourth place in the conference. If the conference tournament started today, the Bears would have to travel to Dobson.

The Eagles took care of business right off the bat, jumping out to an enormous 25-0 lead.

The Eagles were up 25-3 at the end of the first quarter, then 37-12 at the break.

Courtney Hegler had all 18 of her points by halftime.

The Eagles cruised in the second half, with every player scoring. The lead was 50-20 after three and 58-38 for the final.

Hegler added nine rebounds and six assists. Cassidy Joyner had nine points, four steals and two assists.

Sarah Bruce had eight points and six rebounds. Brittany Lewis had six points and five boards.

Marlee Wilmoth had six points and three assists. Kristin Key had one point and six boards.

Tess Dockery scored four, Kendra Johnson and Brooke Lewis two. Mikayla Cox had two points and three rebounds.

The Eagles host South Stokes on Tuesday.
