WALNUT COVE — South Stokes used its home-course advantage to win the first golf match of the season.
The Lady Sauras were seven strokes better than North Surry and 10 better than East Surry at Hemlock Golf Course.
North’s Kasie Tolbert was the medalist with a nine-hole score of 38, one shot better than South Stokes’ Megan Mabe.
In boys’ matches, the top four scores from each six-man team count. In girls’ golf, a team can have five players with the three best scores counting toward the team total.
South Stokes shot a 125 behind Mabe (39), Brooke Kiger (41) and Brooke Martin (45).
North Surry was led by Tolbert’s 38, Gatlin Hiatt at 45 and Sarah Holleman 49. Emma Cassell shot 51 and Rachel Hull 60.
For East Surry, the three best were Madison Moore (tied for third at 41), Lindsey Chamblin (46) and Elizabeth Shelton (48). Rounding out the team were Whitney Cox with a 54 and Brooke Bowman with 57.
Mount Airy was fourth at 166. Catherine Scott shot 51, Erica Carlisle 57, Nina Bowers 58 and Lauren Hodges 61.
Surry Central was fifth at 179. Autumn Scater led the way with a 57, Kimberly Southard 60, Star Burton 62 and Erica Edwards 62.
West Stokes has joined the conference for the first time. Alivia Daniels shot 55 to finish 15th overall.
West Stokes will host the next meet, Wednesday at Pilot Knob Country Club.
