The Mount Airy girl’s soccer team beat Atkins on Monday by a score of 9-0 and are now undefeated at 3-0.

Head Coach Will Hurley said, “It is very exciting. They support each other and I saw a good team effort.”

Junior Marissa Petri led the Lady Bears against Atkins by scoring three goals. Hurley said her aggressive style and hunger led to offensive points for the team.

Also scoring for the Bears was Kimberly Lachino with one goal, Jessica Miranda one, Vanessa Armenta one, Maria Rodriguez one, Andi Moore one; and Breea Hughes with one goal.

Hurley said this was sophomore Hughes’ second game and Moore, a basketball player, scored just coming in from basketball and not yet even having a team practice.

About Moore Hurley said, “She just dribbled the ball out and went up and scored.”

Beasley Nester and Miranda each had one assist for the Bears.

The Bears will play against East Wilkes on Wednesday if weather permits, said Hurley.
