Lady Bears crush South Stokes in tennis

WALNUT COVE — The Lady Bears demolished South Stokes in tennis Tuesday, giving up just two games in singles play.

Mount Airy went a combined 72-2 in the six singles matches and 24-4 in doubles play.

The Bears (10-2) have won eight straight matches, including all seven in the Northwest Conference.

Top seed Jordan Jackson defeated Gina Rutledge 6-1, 6-0. Fifth seed Bree Hughes beat Julie Linville 6-0, 6-1.

The other four matches were clean sweeps 6-0, 6-0.

Those were Davi Barbour over Tori Everly, Jade Hughes over Jenny Glidewell, Haley Thomas over Taylor Evans, and Carley Vanhoy versus Kristen Denny.

In doubles play, Barbour and Thomas swept Rutledge and Everly 8-0.

Abby Hagwood and India Inman won 8-2 over Glidewell and Evans.

Coleman Craddock and Carson Orange won 8-2 over Ivy Gibson and Kaitlyn Denny.

The Bears have their third match of the week today at West Stokes. Mount Airy swept the Wildcats 9-0 in their first meeting Aug. 21.
