Mr. Swanson “Junior” Surratt, Jr. Age 87 of Mount Airy, NC. passed away on Monday November 5, 2012 at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Mount Airy. Mr. Surratt was born June 12, 1925 in Surry County to the late James Swanson Surratt and Viola Renner Surratt, he was retired from Perry Manufacturing and was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Mr. Surratt was a member of Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF & AM. Mr. Surratt had a sense of adventure and travel and his sense of humor was his biggest attribute. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law Patsy and Mack Collins of Mount Airy and Carolyn and Don Collins of Claudville, VA. Four grandchildren and spouses Kevin and Debi Collins of Mebane, Kelli and Matt McDaniel of Huntingtown, MD., Chris Collins of Claudville and Kurt Collins of Greensboro, one great grandchild Will Collins of Mebane, one step great grandchild Madison McDaniel of Huntingtown, MD., two sisters and brother-in-law Helen Sawyers and Mary Ruth and Woodrow Beamer all of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents Mr. Surratt was preceded in death by his wife Velma Frances Mitchell Surratt, three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Geraldine Surratt, Pauline Surratt, Virginia “Jenny” and Burton Slate and Boyd Sawyers. Funeral services will be held Thursday November 8, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with services conducted by Rev. Tony Holder with burial to follow in the Surratt Family Cemetery with full masonic rites conducted by Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF & AM. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:30 PM until time for the service at the Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Oxford Orphanage, 600 College St. Oxford, NC. 27565 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC. 27030.
