It might seem unusual for a rabbi to give a presentation in Mount Airy, but that’s exactly what will happen this week when a leader of the Jewish faith speaks here.
Rabbi David Liebe is scheduled to present a program, “Christ in the Passover,” which explores the relationships between Christianity and Judaism, Friday at 7 p.m. at the local National Guard Armory.
The visit by Liebe, the founder of a ministry in Boone who now lives in Georgia and also heads a congregation there, is being organized by the local Sweet Life Fellowship led by Darin Moser and his wife, Angie.
Darin Moser said the event will be a time of local churches coming together to learn about the Passover, an ancient Jewish celebration that commemorates the exodus of Jews from Egypt, and its importance to their Christian religions.
“At least 12 different churches have representatives coming,” said Moser, who added that organizers wanted to schedule the program close to the Easter observance next month.
“We have seats for 300, and we’ve already sold 250 tickets,” Angie Moser said Friday of the attendance outlook.
Based on information provided from the Sweet Life Fellowship, Rabbi Liebe, whose ministry crosses all Christian denominations, conducts seminars around the U.S., speaks at conferences and has taught Hebrew heritage classes in Bible college.
Liebe’s “Christ in the Passover” program that will be presented at the National Guard Armory is described as an “illustrated teaching” event. It uses visual elements as well as Scripture to tell the story of Christ’s life, death and resurrection.
Darin Moser called it a “very powerful” program.
Advance tickets for Friday’s event, which does not include a meal, are available at $5 per person at 786-1902 or 710-7960. Any remaining tickets will be available the night of the program, when doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the armory off U.S. 52 North.
“We’re excited,” Angie Moser said.
