RALEIGH — Kempton Lark Healey, daughter of Kent and Vickie Greene Healey, Chapel Hill, recently graduated from the city of Raleigh Fire Department’s 37th Recruit Academy in a ceremony held at Meymandi Concert Hall in downtown Raleigh.

After 28 weeks of intensive training, Healey and 27 of her classmates successfully completed all the rigorous requirements to become full-time firefighters for the city of Raleigh and were formally sworn in during the ceremony.

One of the most interesting parts of the program was the badge pinning. Healey chose her father to pin her badge.

Out of about 400 applicants for these 28 positions, Healey was one of only two females accepted.

Healey graduated in 1992 from East Chapel Hill High School. In 1996, she graduated from UNC-Wilmington with a B.S. degree in business with a concentration in marketing and a minor in Spanish. During her junior year, she spent four months studying in Spain.

In addition to working as a firefighter, Healey is continuing her work as a Realtor with Realty World Southern Style in Chapel Hill.

In addition to her parents, nine family members attended the graduation including Healey’s brother, Cooper, and maternal grandparents, J.B. and Melva Key Greene of Dobson’s Copeland community. Also in attendance were Trent and Clara Greene Strickland of Hamlet and Jason and Meredith Liehs Strickland of New Bern.

Following the graduation ceremony, a reception was held at the city of Raleigh Fire Training Center in the capital city.
