North Surry hosted two wrestling teams Tuesday, but didn’t find much competition in two lopsided wins.
Out of 28 possible matches, the Greyhounds only lost three times. North whitewashed Atkins 84-0 and whipped Lexington 60-13.
Atkins only had seven wrestlers sign in, so the team gave up 42 points on forfeits. Then the Hounds earned pins in the other seven matches.
At 113 lbs., Jacob Cavenaugh pinned Steven Caesar. Caleb Lowe (138) pinned Daishon Cheeseboro. Devyn Green (145) pinned Guillermo Arellano.
Austin Collins (152) pinned Omari Lewis. Bo Wright got his first win of the season at 160, pinning Tristen Murray.
Corbin Bullins (170) pinned Gustavo Moreno. Ben Hensley (182) pinned Marquis Bruton.
Levi Slate (195) was credited with two wins, but never had a match. He received forfeits from both teams. Austin Collins (9-0 at 152) also had a forfeit from Lexington.
In the 12 weights that did have a match, the Hounds won nine with seven on falls.
Lowe had a narrow 4-3 decision over Isaiah Anglin at 138. The match was tied 3-3 with nine seconds left when they restarted with Lowe on bottom, noted Coach Eric Jessup. Lowe got an escape in the final seconds for the win.
Austin Akers (heavyweight) won a 9-7 decision over Zach Mauldin, who came into the night 11-3.
Saige Wolf (106) pinned Emanuel James. Austin McMillian (120) pinned Christian Christley.
Tristen Brannock (126) pinned Deshawn Smith. He remains undefeated with five forfeits and seven matches won, including a 3-1 defeat of West Wilkes star Jake St. Germain.
Austin Rozier (132) earned a fall on Sakeem McIntosh.
Bullins (170) pinned Saul Pina. Cody Slate (220) pinned Victor Contreras.
With Dakota Goss out resting a sore back, Dalton Golden has been filling in at 182 lbs., even though he’s 20 pounds lighter. Golden pinned Antonio Evens and is 3-3 at 182.
Lexington has just one returning state qualifier. Danford Carpenter (145) won a 12-5 decision over Green. This was just the third loss of the season for the sophomore Green against 12 wins.
Lexington got a major decision from Alan Palomares 13-4 over Cavenaugh.
The lone pin of the night came at 160 where Dutrey Rose caught Wright.
This Saturday, North Surry is hosting the Greyhound Duals. Surry Central, East Wilkes, Starmount, Magna Vista and McMichael will take part in the day-long event that begins at 9 a.m.
