Pilot Mountain Programmers First Lego League team members Eli Bullington and Kate Pendry make adjustments before sending their robot, RG3, to knock over some small bowling pins. The Lego League scrimmage was held to let seven local teams practice. The competition includes programming and building a robot to do tasks, problem solving and on teamwork.

Mount Airy Middle School First Lego League team members Jack Stansil and Grey Tucker have to make some adjustments to a robot during a scrimmage held Wednesday at the school. The team calls itself the Legit Legos. The league is a county-wide effort which began as discussions with SouthData Inc. The competition encourages students to use Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) skills.
First Lego League judge Justin Bartley examines “cleaverbot” while members of the Code Blue team from Meadowview Middle School look on. The league’s first scrimmage was held at Mount Airy Middle School on Wednesday with seven teams competing.
