Ed and Sarah Lee McGee celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at Pandowdy’s Restaurant on Sept. 17, with their family, Anne, Mark and Zachary Towe of Mount Airy and Laurie McGee of Henderson. Their son, Alan, is deceased.

The McGees were married on Sept. 16, 1949, at First Baptist Church where Sarah Lee served as assistant to the pastor, Dr. Carrington Paulette. The Rev. Vells M. Forrester, brother-in-law of the bride, officiated the ceremony. Dr. Paulette was the soloist.

Ed is a native of Surry County and has been employed by several companies as an accountant and office supervisor.

Both Ed and Sarah Lee were teachers in the Mount Airy and Surry County schools.

The couple was also entertained by Ronald and Lib Boyles on Sept. 13 in East Bend and by Richard and Nancy Pyles on Sept. 15 at The Depot in Dobson.
