Avery Tilley took first place in the 100 free and 200 Free. The 400 Free Relay also came in first against North Stokes and South Stokes.
PILOT MOUNTAIN — The East Surry girls took first place in every event and second in all but one Tuesday in a tri-meet conference swim meet against North Surry and South Stokes at home.
The girls’ score ended East Surry scoring 152, North Surry 51 and South Stokes 43. North Surry won the boys’ competition scoring 107 to South Stokes’ 73 and East Surry’s 40.
East Surry Head Coach Leah Tunstall said, “Overall the girls swam very well. We are getting over that time handle on determining the best lineup.”
Tunstall said Tuesday night was a great accomplishment and is always happy with backing up first place with second, third and fourth wins.
“The times for the girls were great tonight and that goal was met,” said Tunstall.
The only event in which the team did not get first or second place was in the 200 Freestyle. “Teamwork was happening with the Lady Cards swim team in this meet,” the coach added.
This is the last swim meet for the Cardinals before the holidays, and the team enters the holiday break with the girls 3-1 and the boys 0-4.
There are only four boys swimmers on the roster for the Cardinals. Tunstall said, individually the boys are swimming good and their times are great for where they are in the season.
“At the end of the day, it is individual in the men’s.” Christopher Holshouser won first Tuesday for the Cardinal boys in the 200 Free, 100 Free, and 200 Medley.
Tunstall said last season, the Cardinals lost a big group and looks for more to sign up in the future.
“It would be great to have more depth, we are used to having that but we got four and that is what we will go with” and she said she is happy with the improvements in the boys’ times.
The only team the East Surry girls have lost to so far is Mount Airy, Tunstall said.
“We are shaping up well for the Jan. 3 meet which will be sharper as the season progresses and the conference records are defined,” she said.
North Surry Head Coach Ashley Taylor said about her boys’ team success and girls’ as well, “I am very proud of my swimmers. Their strokes are improving and their dedication and hard work showed tonight.”
