DOBSON — Surry Central scored a goal in the first minute of the game and pitched a shutout on East Surry for a 3-0 win Thursday.

Francisco Rangel gave the Golden Eagles the early lead. Then in the 29th minute, Jose Avalos provided an insurance point with a goal.

Surry Central led 2-0 at the half.

Midway through the second half, Rangel found Juan Lopez for the third score.

Central Coach Blake Roth said he felt like his team played well and controlled the pace of the game.

East’s Souli Boutis played a great game and disrupted the Eagles’ attack, Roth noted.

The Eagles kept up the pressure and had several shots on goal, but had trouble converting against keeper Marco Gomez, he added.

The win improves Central to 7-1-2, 4-1 in the Northwest Conference.

The Eagles host Reagan on Monday, which should be a challenge since Reagan is a 4-A school, Roth said.

East Surry falls to 5-3. The Cards host two matches next week: Winston-Salem Prep on Wednesday and West Stokes on Thursday.
