STUART, Va. — Mrs. Thelma Owens Dunkley, 88, of Stuart, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born in Stokes County, N.C., on Jan. 7, 1924, to the late Will Arthur and Alpha Shelton Owens. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dunkley was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Alvis James Dunkley; and one brother, Jimmy Owens. She had been a member of Collinstown Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, and had been a teacher with the Surry County School System for 32 years. Mrs. Dunkley is survived by one son, Kenneth Norman Dunkley of Stuart; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Thomas Holt of Stuart; two grandchildren, Traci Kornett and husband, Brian, of Columbus, Ga., and Keith Holt and wife, Pamela, of Stuart; three great-grandchildren, Bryce Kornett, Brooklyn Holt and Elliot Holt; three sisters, Alma Dunkley of Westfield, N.C., Dora Easter and husband, Roy, of Mount Airy and Nellie Boles of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; and two sisters-in-law, Edith Stowe of Patrick Springs and Nancy Foley and husband, Tommy, of Fieldale. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Collinstown Presbyterian Church with Pastor Shaun Draughn and Pastor Mark George officiating. Burial will follow in the Stateline Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. If desired, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
