Employees of the public works division of city government were minus some tools and other property this week as the result of a break-in.
The crime was discovered Monday at the city public services center on East Pine Street, where the building as well as a vehicle had been entered, according to the Mount Airy Police Department.
Someone gained access to the structure at an unknown location, cut a lock, entered a 2005 Ford pickup and stole various property from the premises, police records state.
A long list of city-owned items was taken, including two 100-foot one-inch copper rolls, assorted copper fittings, about 50 feet of copper tubing, a Kodak Easy Share digital camera;
Also, a red bag with carabiners and rope, a pair of Reed 36-inch bolt cutters, a DeWalt Sawzall, double and single battery chargers for DeWalt tools, a black bag containing chainsaw chaps and a hard hat and another black bag with a hard hat.
The property was valued at $3,066 altogether.
