Mount Airy Fire Department members are all smiles over a successful fundraising effort for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. With the help of Freddie the Fire Truck and Sparky the Fire Dog, seen in the middle, they generated $6,677 during an annual “Fill the Boot” campaign at the Autumn Leaves Festival on Oct. 12-14. That broke a record of $5,600 set in 2005. The money raised this year will allow 80 children from the area who are muscular dystrophy sufferers to attend a summer camp. Pictured with Freddie and Sparky, from left, are Fire Engineers Brad Harrell and Scottie Wolfe, firefighter Kevin Conner, MDA Regional Coordinator Sara Beth Wynne, Capt. Jody Seaver and firefighters Preston George, Jason Lawson and Kenneth Simmons.
