HAYS — The East Surry boys varsity basketball team pulled out a win on the road by a score of 51-44 against North Wilkes in its second-round state playoff game.

Both Eli Gilbert and Scott Meredith scored 17 points for the Cards and Seth Brim contributed another double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Carson Long put in eight, Tyler Pardue four, and Drew Alley two.

Head Coach Jason Anderson said the team won the rebound battle, and though offensive shooting was not the best it’s been, it got better in the second half with more open looks.

He said the team built steam in the second half by attacking the inside against North Wilkes.

Anderson said a win on the road is always a good one and North Wilkes is a tough gym to play at.

The team will travel to Hayesville in the Big Smoky Mountain Conference to play on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
