DOBSON —The Surry County Board of Commissioners has given the nod to closing a portion of Butner Road.

During its meeting Tuesday night, the board unanimously voted to close the road at the request of River Oak Farms.

But the commissioners took a little time to consider the matter before making the decision.

The move came following a Dec. 3, public hearing held on the closure during which only the attorney for River Oak Farms spoke in favor of the closure.

“The dead end road is entirely abutted by property owned by River Oak Farms,” said County Planner Kim Bates. “There are some parcels south of the dead end that were owned by other parties, but all those lands have been acquired by River Oak.”

The closure was approved on a motion by Commissioner Paul Johnson, with a second by Commissioner Jimmy Miller.
