The Bannertown Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies’ Auxiliary is hosting a spring and summer children’s consignment sale and is asking for anyone who would like to consign items to sign up by March 12.

The Super 75 Kidz Closet Spring/Summer Children’s Consignment Sale will be held at Mount Airy Wesleyan Church on March 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and March 23 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Items needed for the consignment sale include gently used spring and summer children’s clothing in sizes 0-16, as well as shoes and accessories. Items may include swim suits, general clothing items, Easter dresses and suits, and other seasonally-appropriate items. They are also accepting baby items such as pack & plays, high chairs, strollers, cribs, baby gates, toys, baby gear, and bedding, as well as maternity clothing.

Andrea Freeman, president of the Bannertown Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary, said this is the first consignment sale in what she hopes will become a seasonal event. “We will have another in the fall that is already in the works.”

The idea for the consignment sale was inspired by several successful consignment events in Pilot Mountain.

Freeman consigned at the Pilot Mountain events in the past and said she it was “wonderful thing to do, especially in this economy.”

According to Freeman, the upcoming consignment sale is a good way for parents in the area to extend their budgets by consigning items they no longer need, especially since kids’ clothing is not worn for very long.

“I’ve seen people get whole bedding sets for less than half the price of what it would originally cost. If you have an item in good condition, you don’t want to just give it away, plus the consignors are helping two good causes: the community you live in and the fire department that serves the community.”

The name Super 75 Kidz Closet was created during a brainstorm session during one of the ladies’ auxiliary meetings. The Bannertown Volunteer Fire Department is station 75, and all the station’s trucks have decals on them with the Superman logo and “Super 75” on the back.

The Ladies’ Auxiliary group for the Bannertown Volunteer Fire Department provides support to fire department projects, responds with refreshments for the firefighters throughout the year, and helps to provide needed equipment.

The proceeds from the consignment sale will go directly to the auxiliary group and will help the group continue to support the volunteer firefighters.

As an additional bonus, anyone who consigns items for the sale is invited to attend a consignor-only sale on Thursday night, before the regular sale begins.

For safety and sanitary reasons, the group does not accept car seats, pacifiers, teething toys, and bottles.

Anyone who is interested in consigning items for the sale should email super75kidzcloset@yahoo.com for an information packet. The information packet includes directions on how to tag the items. Consignors will assign their own prices. The consignor receives 70 percent and the ladies’ auxiliary will receive 30 percent, which will assist in their efforts to support the volunteer firefighters.

“The goal of this sale is to help the community in two ways: by providing a place to buy and sale children’s items, but also to support our volunteer firefighters. The more we can do to help our community, the better off we all are. This event is really starting to take off, and we are so excited.”
