DOBSON — On Halloween night, the Surry County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting its annual Operation Silent Night.

Officers from the sheriff’s office will team with local police departments to keep an eye on registered sex offenders living in Surry County.

Sheriff Graham Atkinson will have a briefing at the sheriff’s office at 5:30 p.m. Halloween night. Each officer will be given a list of those offenders that are to be checked.

After the initial check, officers will continue to check these locations during the evening. Officers will be making sure that the offenders are at the residence listed as their address on the Sex Offender Registry and that the offender is in compliance with the terms and conditions imposed upon them by the court and the Sex Offender Statues.

Also, officers will be passing out copies of updates to the Sex Offender Registry Laws and updating photographs of those offenders whose appearance may have changed.
