For those who love the thrill of taking to the wild blue yonder, pilots associated with the Mount Airy/Surry County Airport are offering plane rides on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.

Plane rides are $20 per person. Rides will be given from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The rides at the airport began in the spring when airport authorities held a Fly-in to raise awareness about the airport.

Plane rides will continue until the end of summer.

Barbecue chicken quarter plates that include two sides, a drink and dessert will be sold from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Surry County Pilot’s Association is offering the meals prepared by Holly Springs Cafe for a recommended $8 donation per plate. Proceeds will go toward paying for flights for underprivileged school kids who visit the airport on school field trips.

For more information, call the airport at 789-5153.
