On Saturday, May 30th, from 10am to 2pm, the town of Rural Hall will play host to thousands of North Carolinians at beautiful lakeside Covington Memorial Park for our 35th Anniversary Celebration. This event is only offered every five years and features live music from the Taylor Vaden Band (finale as Elvis), the Adams Sisters, and the Rural Hall Elementary School Chorus. This community festival is free to the public with plenty of free off site parking and free shuttle buses! Handicapped parking is at the park.
A classic car show is also featured with over 75 cars planned, along with over 30 arts and craft vendors, 18 food vendors (including BBQ, chicken, sausages, hot dogs, corn dogs, corn on the cob, funnel cakes, ice cream, cotton candy, and many other items typically found only at a fair), and over 31 community organizations on expo. Chef Don McMillan of Catering by Simple Elegance and The Stocked Pot will judge the North Forsyth Extension Service's Pound Cake Contest. First Prize is a $55 gift card to the The Stocked Pot and second prize are the 2007 and 2008 Cook's Country Cookbooks. A children's area with 3 large inflatables will entertain your kids in a secure, fenced area. Antique tractors, balloons, face painting, raffles, prizes, free samples, and promotional items free for the taking make this the ultimate in family friendly activities for all ages! Free shuttle buses will also stop at the new Rural Hall Museum where the Rural Hall Historical Society will be showing documents, photos, and other Rural Hall memorabilia of interest to residents and area history buffs. Among other things, Rural Hall is the site of the first Ford dealer and assembly plant in North Carolina!
