Shohei Tsutsumi Osaka, Japan (presently a graduate student at Appalachian State University and a banjo picker) I think with old-time music, there are values — like socializing — it's special. There's a sense of community, which other music forms promote, but not as much. People like me from outside the region feel very engaged in this music. I think that's a beauty of the music.
