PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry swept North Surry 9-0 for the second rivalry win in a week.


The Lady Cardinals won on the road last week 8-1 and improved to 3-0 with a home win Monday.


The Lady Greyhounds very nearly pulled out a doubles match.


North’s Jane and Kelly Blackburn battled to an 8-8 tie in the eight-point pro set.


However, East’s Tiffany King and Kayla Keener took the tiebreaker 7-3 to preserve the shutout.


In the first meeting, the Blackburn sisters won 8-1 in doubles.


East’s Haley and Mikayla Manuel beat Taylor Tickle and Rebecca Parsons 8-3. Allie Hawks and Klaudia Tucker beat Bailey Atkins and Cassidy Willard 8-1.


In singles, top seed King beat Jane Blackburn 6-0, 6-2. On Court Two, Haley Manuel beat Tickle 6-2, 6-0.


Hawks beat Kelly Blackburn 6-3, 6-0. Mikayla Manuel won 6-1, 6-3 over Parsons.


Keener won 6-1, 6-0 over Atkins


Tucker topped Willard 6-0, 6-1.


The Cards host Elkin on Wednesday, then they face a big challenge with Bishop McGuinness coming to Pilot on Thursday. The Lady Villains are widely considered one of the top 1A teams in the state this year.
