PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry defeated Surry Central 10-7 in a 10-inning summer baseball game on Tuesday night at Barry Hall Field.


East scored two runs in the first and third innings before Central cut it to 4-3 with a three-run fourth inning. East tacked on four more runs in the sixth.


Central added a run in the seventh and three in the ninth to pull within one run, but got no closer.


Right-hander Lucas Koons got the start and earned the win in three innings. Travis Green started for Central.


East finished with 15 hits on the evening while Central had 11 for the game.


East had four hits and got run-scoring singles from Carson Long and Gage Edwards in the first inning. In the third, Troy Jessup had an RBI double and Carson Cheek hit an RBI single.


Central scored its first two runs on East errors before Garrett Johnson drove in the third run with a double.


Jessup hit an RBI single in a sixth inning where East drew five walks (two with the bases loaded). Central allowed another run on an error.


John Marion, Jessup and Long also saw pitching action for East. Chandler Johnson, John Marshall and Jed Kidd also threw for Central.


East Surry hosts West Stokes in a 10-inning game today at 6 p.m. while Surry Central travels to North Stokes for a seven-inning contest today at 6 p.m. Central goes to South Stokes on Thursday.
