Mount Airy coach Chuck Morris has announced the dates for his summer youth volleyball clinic.
The summer camp will run from July 9-11, from 9 a.m. to noon the first two days and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the final day.
Coach Morris said he is extremely excited to announce that Coach Heather Holmes, former head coach at Wake Forest University, will be the special guest coach for Wednesday and Thursday.
“It is not often that we are able to have an excellent Division I head coach come and work with our young volleyball players in this area,” said Morris.
Holmes amassed 108 wins in eight seasons as head coach for the Demon Deacons which is the most of any coach in Wake Forest volleyball history.
Before being named the ninth head coach in school history in 2005, she served as an assistant for five seasons.
In 2010, she guided the team to a 19-12 overall record and a program-best 11-9 mark in conference play. For her career, Holmes won 66 matches in the ACC.
In 2012, Holmes was diagnosed with breast cancer and started treatments while still leading the team. After that season, she stepped down as coach to focus on treatment and getting better. Now she is eager to get back to working with young women.
Also running the camp will be assistant coach Amy Balthis and graduating senior Kathryn Beasley, who has signed to play at Brevard College next season. Several other current and former Lady Bears will assist.
The cost of the camp is $60, with a discount to $50 if the checks are received by the end of June. The fee includes a camp T-shirt.
The flyer/application is available at the high school office, middle school office and Reeves Community Center.
