WALKERTOWN — The Lady Cardinals wrapped up the regular season with a 7-0 win over Walkertown on the road.
The Kish sisters led East Surry to their eighth win in the Northwest Conference. The Cards improved to 8-2, 10-8 overall.
Coach Bill Hart said the story of the night was the play of two sisters: Abby and Emma Kish.
Abby, a junior, is a standout defender, while Emma, a sophomore plays outside left mid, Hart said.
Emma scored three goals against the Lady Wolfpack. Then in the second half, Hart tried moving her back to the goal and switched Abby to her outside position.
Then Abby scored her first goal of the season.
The assist went to Alayna Speer, which was her first of the season as well.
Alayna is a great girl, smart, but she never gets a chance to play out front because she’s too valuable on defense, said the coach.
In fact, Alayna is so smart that she’s been accepted into the N.C. School of Science and Math so this is almost like her senior season at East, he said.
Playing down in Walkertown, this was the hottest, most humid evening of the season so far, he pointed out.
“We played well,” Hart said. “We made some good combination passes.” Mary Jo Lowe, who scored all four goals against Mount Airy the night before, had one goal Tuesday. Freshman Anai Gomez, sister of boys’ player Brayan Gomez, had a goal.
