PILOT MOUNTAIN — Emily Cummings homered as East Surry crushed Bishop McGuinness 16-1 in four innings in Northwest 1A Conference softball on Friday.

Cummings finished with two hits, two runs and four RBIs. Laken Bowman had two hits and scored four runs. The Lady Cardinals pounded the Villains for 11 hits and Bishop committed seven errors in the game.

Bowman earned the win in the pitcher’s circle for East. She threw three innings, allowed one unearned run off two hits, walked one and struck out five. Cummings pitched one inning, walked one and struck out two.

East led 9-0 after the first inning, 12-1 after three and then tacked on four more in the fourth to end the game on the mercy rule.

The Cardinals (11-3 overall, 5-0 conference) have a key Northwest 1A game on Tuesday when they travel to North Stokes, which is 10-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.
