North Surry held its first Blue/Grey Alumni Challenge on Saturday night.

The first session featured matches that went three one-minute rounds, the second was 2-2-1 and the last session was a 2-2-2 format. There were a total of 21 matches in all.

Seventeen of the wrestlers have qualified for the state tournament, and five won individual conference titles.

The teams were coached by Earl Hill, North’s first wrestling coach, and Scott Shelton, also a former wrestling coach.

North held a successful alumni basketball game earlier this season that was a huge success. Saturday’s wrestling event also drew a good crowd. North wrestling coach Eric Jessup said he hopes to make the wrestling tournament an annual event, which will be named after Earl Hill.

During the tournament, North recognized volunteer Jeffrey Pippin with an award. North also recognized the state qualifiers and all-conference selections from this year’s wrestling team.
