PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry posted a shutout win over Walkertown in Northwest 1A Conference soccer on Friday night.


The Cardinals won 8-0, scoring five goals in the first half.


Michelle Ruiz and Mary Jo Lowe each finished with two goals for the Cards. Whitney Newman, Briana Atwell, Kristel Hicinbothem, and Maria Mares also scored.


Keeper Maggie Collins got the shutout for East, which travels to conference leader Bishop McGuinness on Monday. The Cardinals fell to the Villains 5-2 in the first meeting between the two teams.


“We are improving every game, the girls are working hard,” coach Bill Hart of East said. “With the young team we have, it’s a matter of getting better every game.”


East is 6-7-1 overall and 4-1 in the league.
