Sophomore Jessica Miranda had a hat trick as Mount Airy defeated North Stokes 5-1 in Northwest 1A Conference soccer action on Thursday at Shelton Stadium.
Miranda leads the Lady Bears with 11 goals on the season. Judy Madigral and Kimberly Lachino scored the other goals for Mount Airy.
Madigral also had an assist and Jaden Brinkley and Maria Villegas recorded assists as well for Mount Airy, which finished with 23 shots. Ailia Halpern had six saves.
Coach Will Hurley of Mount Airy said he thought Ana Ortiz stepped up and did a good job at sweeper, as well as forward Emma Wagoner.
Hurley said he has a couple of players out with ankle sprains.
“We are pretty beat and bruised up,” Hurley said. “We only had one senior playing tonight, and that was Beasley our goalkeeper, and she was in the field. I thought she played really good though.”
Mount Airy improved to 6-6-1 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Bishop McGuinness, which defeated Mount Airy on Wednesday night, leads the conference standings with a 4-0 league record. East Surry is 2-1 in the conference going into today’s match with Walkertown.
The Bears travel to Starmount for a nonconference match on Monday.
