The Surry Knights softball team will try to snap a two-game slide when it travels to Montreat College for a nonconference doubleheader today.
Surry (14-8 overall, 6-4 Region X) won a pair of nonconference home games against Louisburg College on April 1, then lost two Region X contests on the road at Richard Bland College on April 4.
Shey Steelman and Morgan Shiflett earned the pitching wins against Louisburg. The Knights won the first game 6-5 and the second game 12-3. Surry had 11 hits in the first game and scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game. Candace Newsome was 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Sarah Scott was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Emily Worley was 2-for-3 with a run.
In the second game, Surry had 16 hits as a team. Rachel Wagoner was 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Natalie Hauser, Courtney Barnes, Scott, Brittany Myers, and Worley each had two hits.
The Knights went on the road to Petersburg, Va. on April 4 and lost a couple of tough Region X games, 6-2 and 4-3.
Surry returns home Friday with a Region X doubleheader against Florence-Darlington Technical College, beginning at 3 p.m.
